Michael Jackson is set to top the UK album chart six years after his last number one hit, the UK's official chart compilers have revealed.
The greatest hits album, Number Ones, is on its way to the top spot after a surge in sales in the days since the star's death on Thursday. The Official Charts Company said it also expects to see "up to half a dozen" of the singer's other albums in the Top 75.
Jackson is also likely to feature in the singles chart as fans download tracks from his back catalogue. The songs currently climbing fastest up the charts are the Man In The Mirror, Billie Jean and Thriller.
But a spokesman for the Official Charts Company said fans seemed to be stocking up on Jackson's albums rather than individual songs. Also, he said, because the singer's back catalogue is so extensive, buying trends are likely to be less pronounced - so less of an impact is expected on the singles chart.
The singer's albums were also dominating Apple's iTunes download charts, with a Jackson album topping the chart in 13 different countries. In the UK, his albums took all of the top six places in the charts - with his Number Ones album at number one.
On the Amazon.co.uk sales charts Essential Michael Jackson was at number one with seven other Jackson albums in the top 25.
